Brave 11-Year-Old Battling Cancer Completes 12-Hour Charity Gaming Marathon

Finlay Guppy from England has completed a 12-hour charity gaming marathon, raising $3,200 for a cancer charity.

At just 11 years old, Finlay Guppy from New Forest, England, has had multiple encounters with cancer.

In 2021, at the age of seven, Finlay was first diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor, a rare type of kidney cancer that affects children.

He was later cured of the disease and experienced a period of remission; however, in 2023, the cancer returned.

After recovering in 2024, he was once again diagnosed with cancer just a few months later.

As of now, the brave boy is undergoing treatment at Southampton Children’s Hospital, with support from a social worker from the nonprofit organization Young Lives vs Cancer.

Young Lives vs Cancer is a charity that supports children and young people under the age of 25 when they are affected by cancer.

They support families of children and young people under 25 with cancer by providing financial grants, emotional support, and various forms of assistance.

In a Facebook post shared by Young Lives vs Cancer, his mom, Nikki Guppy, said that despite facing setbacks, Finlay shows remarkable strength and determination, inspiring those around him.

She further added that Finlay has made it a point every year to raise funds for the various charities that have supported him throughout his battles with cancer.

Although he faces physical limitations and is undergoing treatment, he remains undeterred and successfully completed the 12-hour game-a-thon.

Initially, Finlay’s friends cheered him on and supported him during his charity gaming marathon. However, after the midway mark, his dad and uncle joined him and played alongside him until the end.

Nikki said she was proud of her son and was amazed to see the donations continue to pour in, reaching more than $3,200.

When asked about his accomplishment, Finlay said he initially thought the task would be easy. However, it turned out to be incredibly difficult, and he’s glad he was able to raise funds and help others with it.

According to Liz Blunt, the senior fundraising engagement manager at Young Lives vs Cancer, Finlay is a lovely child for thinking of others while he himself is in pain and undergoing treatment.

She thanked Finlay, his family, and his school for supporting and motivating him throughout the gaming marathon.

She also appreciated Finlay for his dedication, brilliant fundraising abilities, and “his incredible support in taking on this challenge.”
