A dog named Moo Daeng, who went viral on social media for waiting months for his dead owner, has been adopted by A princess of the Thai royal family.
A homeless man who lived outside a convenience store in Thailand passed away in November 2024.
However, months after his death, according to reports published by The Independent, his faithful dog, Moo Daeng, still waits for his dead owner outside a 7-Eleven store in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand.
The dog still waits at their usual spot, months after his owner passed away.
Residents of the area noticed Moo Daeng and felt compassion for him, so they began providing food, water, and necessary veterinary care.
The neighborhood residents even compared him to Hachiko, the loyal Japanese dog who became famous for waiting nine years outside a railway station for his dead owner to return from work.
A statue of Hachiko stands outside the Shibuya Metro station in Tokyo, honoring his loyalty and faithfulness.
Meanwhile, a local photographer began sharing Moo Daeng’s story and photos on Facebook, which quickly went viral.
Pictures of the pup believed to be around 10 years old, caught the attention of Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, a member of the Thai royal family.
Princess Siribha, an animal welfare activist, is also the niece of Thailand’s current king, Maha Vajiralongkorn.
She adopted the dog on January 23, and her team shared the news in an official Facebook post, “To all of Moo Daeng’s fans, I want to bring you up to speed so you don’t have to worry, feel anxious or have unanswered questions after all the recent drama.”
Princess Siribha believes that all her pets have experienced some form of trauma, such as injury, abuse, or abandonment, and is especially concerned about Moo Daeng’s emotional needs.
Having experienced significant emotional turmoil for nearly a decade, Princess Siribha understands that Moo Daeng, which means “red pig” in Thai, is likely suffering from severe depression and the pain of losing a loved one.
She further added that while humans can hide their pain and appear normal, our four-legged friends are pure and show exactly how they feel.
Princess Siribha plans to continue sharing pictures and updates of her new pet, as she wants to maintain a close connection between him and his fans.
In fact, she plans to bring Moo Daeng, better known as the “Hachiko of Korat,” whenever she visits the area, allowing people to meet him.
Moo Daeng is ready to move in with Princess Siribha at her royal residence in Chiang Mai once she completes all the adoption formalities.
