Frannie, an extremely obese dog who was about to be euthanized, got a new lease on life thanks to veterinary student Annika Bram.
24-year-old Annika Bram is a second-year student at the UC-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
She has taken over the Herculean task of fostering an extremely obese dog named Frannie.
She has also been sharing Frannie’s weight loss journey on her Instagram account, which is followed by more than 400,000 people.

Frannie is an eight-year-old golden retriever who was about to be euthanized due to her extreme obesity.
The obese dog Frannie is unable to sit or stand up due to her weight and also has other health issues like hyperthyroidism and pneumonia.
Bram’s previous dog, Georgia, who passed away some time ago, was also morbidly obese.
She helped the pooch lose a staggering 85 pounds during the five years they were together.
She learned about Frannie through Rover Retreat, an animal rescue organization, which was taking care of the pooch at the time.
Due to her history with obese dogs, Bram thought she would be the ideal candidate to care for Frannie.
Upon contacting Rover Retreat, she learned that the pooch was double the weight of an average golden retriever. She weighed a shocking 125 pounds.
Bram regularly followed up with Sydney Maleman, the president of Rover Retreat, to learn about the pooch’s condition.
She was willing to do everything possible to help the animal out of her misery, and Maleman also thought Bram was the right person to care for Frannie.
Finally, she got the dog and created an Instagram page called “Frannies.fight,” where she shares the animal’s fat-to-fit transformation journey.
At first impression, she felt that the obese dog seemed, “completely defeated,” but she believes her previous dog, Georgia, led her to help Frannie.
Juggling her studies at veterinary school along with Frannie’s health schedule has been challenging, but she manages both responsibilities well.
Frannie had a rough life; she spent eight years living outdoors, had never seen a vet, was overfed, and her untreated hypothyroidismx was probably the reason her weight skyrocketed.
Since the poor dog was unable to stand due to her weight, Bram would have her sit on a crate to put some pressure on her very weak hind legs.
Not one to give up easily, Bram put Frannie on a strict routine, rehab exercises, and thyroid medication.
Slowly and steadily, the pounds began to melt away, and now, eight months later, Frannie has a renewed personality.
Frannie’s weight is now down to around 73 pounds, having lost more than 52 pounds since she began her weight loss journey.
The pup can now easily walk a mile every day and even plays fetch, just like other dogs.
Cheers to Bram for being so determined to help the poor pup lead a healthier life.
