An Honest man finds $12,000 and returns it all to the senior citizen who lost it

A senior citizen lost her envelope containing $12,000, only for an honest man to find it and return the full amount to her.

Van Ha, a 71-year-old woman from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was grocery shopping at a local Market Basket store.

After finishing shopping and returning home, she realized that the envelope containing $12,000 cash that she was carrying with her at the supermarket was missing.

With the envelope gone, Ha became nervous and scared, so she called her 55-year-old nephew, Truong Huynh for help.

Huynh rushed home and took his aunt back to the store, where they thoroughly searched every spot she had been to once again.

Sadly, they were unable to find the envelope anywhere. Heartbroken, they went to the help desk and informed the store manager, Dan Defosses, about their loss.

He assured them that he would check the store’s surveillance camera footage to see where she might have lost the envelope.

However, none of the cameras were able to capture Ha clearly, and they could not make out when or where she lost the money.

Disappointed, Huynh and Ha returned to their car and were about to leave when the manager, Defosses, came running toward them.

A regular customer of the store named Skip had returned the envelope, with every single dollar still intact inside.

Huynh told the Washington Post that he and his aunt nearly cried tears of happiness upon finding their money returned.

He spoke about Skip, saying, “He showed honor, many people wouldn’t pass that test.”

Upon reaching home, Ha decided to reward the good Samaritan, Skip, who chose honesty by returning the money to its rightful owner instead of pocketing it.

So, the aunt-nephew duo drove back to the Market Basket store in the afternoon and gave $300 to Skip’s girlfriend, who works there, since Skip had already left.

Defosses also mentioned that he wasn’t sure many people would do what Skip did, adding, “It shows you there are truly some good people in this world.”

One might wonder why Ha was carrying such a large amount of cash with her on a trip to the grocery store.

As a senior, she believed that the best place to keep the money was with herself, so she took the envelope with her everywhere she went.

She plans to give it to her children one day as her legacy. We hope she will keep the money safely in a bank now.

Huynh shared the story on a local Facebook group. In the post, he expressed his appreciation for Skip, thanking him and calling him “a true example of integrity and compassion.”
