Son Surprises Dad With Dream Car He Sold 40 Years Ago to Afford Diapers

Advertising expert and TV personality Jared Guynes surprised his dad on his 65th birthday with his dream car: a 1967 Marina Blue Camaro.

Forty-one years ago, in 1983, Earl Guynes, a young man from Mesquite, Texas, was overjoyed to learn that his wife, Mona, was expecting their second child.

However, along with the good news, Guynes also realized he would have to part with his dream car—a 1967 Marina Blue Chevrolet Camaro, which he had purchased at the age of 22—to cover the growing expenses of raising his family.

Their son, Jared Guynes, is a well-known TV and internet personality, a four-time Guinness World Record holder, and a marketing consultant.

Growing up, Jared heard the story of his dad’s sacrifice, often joking about how his favorite car was sold to cover his diaper money.

Jared noticed how much his dad cherished the car, and although he owned other cars later, Jared knew it remained his all-time favorite.

Decades had passed since the incident, and Jared decided to reunite his dad with the car. However, since it had been sold for cash so long ago, there was no trace of it.

But he remembered every detail of the car as if it were etched in his mind: a 1967 Marina Blue Camaro SS, 350 V8, white stripes, automatic transmission, Cragar aftermarket wheels with white-letter tires, and dual exhaust.

After some time searching and with a stroke of luck, Jared found success in 2022 when he spotted the car just 70 miles away in Oklahoma. However, it required a lot of work.

Jared purchased the car and spent two years working on it in secret, repairing, restoring, and perfecting it in time for his dad’s 65th birthday in October.

He told NBC Boston that he wanted to do something big and outrageous to show his dad how much he loved him and to let him know what a great father he is.

Jared knew the greatest gift he could give his dad was bringing back the Camaro. At his dad’s 65th birthday party, a magician’s act left everyone spellbound, leading to the grand reveal of the car.

Jared shared in a Facebook post that his dad was left teary-eyed, marking only the third time he had ever seen him cry. He added that his dad is someone who usually smiles, laughs, and selflessly gives to everyone around him.

Guynes, a lifelong car enthusiast who has worked in the automotive industry, described seeing his dream car again as the best moment of his life.

He now plans to work on his birthday gift and restore it further, at the same time, he expressed his excitement about how the car turns heads everywhere it goes.

Doing big or even small acts for our loved ones is what makes life truly worthwhile.
